Focusing on German schools abroad: DAAD Activities within the "Schools: Partners for the Future" initiative
"Schools: Partners for the Future" is an initiative coordinated by the Federal Foreign Office and implemented in cooperation with the Central Agency for Schools Abroad, the Goethe-Institut, the Educational Exchange Service of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Länder in the Federal Republic of Germany and the German Academic Exchange Service . The DAAD scholarship programme of German schools abroad and partner schools is to be expanded significantly in 2008. The number of full grants for study in Germany will double from 60 to 120 and will be advertised internationally for the first time. Another novelty is the BIDS programme (Betreuungsinitiative Deutsche Auslands- und Partnerschulen), a support initiative for German schools abroad and partner schools which is aimed at German universities. The goal is to improve direct contact between German universities and the schools abroad and partner schools to attract graduating pupils. Assistance is provided in the form of motivational scholarship, personnel for intensive support as well as contributions in the shape of equipment or travel expense to foster cooperation with specific abroad and/or partner schools.

PLEASE BE INFORMED:
Even as a student you need a visa for your entry and stay in Germany. As applications require longer waiting times, due to a huge demand of visa appointments, please make sure that you inform yourself early enough about necessary regulations and steps to be taken.

uni-assist? What does that mean?
uni-assist e.V. is an association of German universities. It was founded on the initiative of the German Rectors' Conference (HRK) and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
uni-assist (originally ASSIST) is a certification office founded to make the application procedure for international student applicants easier and at the same time to support German universities in the selection of their foreign students.
All applicants wanting to study at one of the members of uni-assist have to send their applications not to the chosen university, but to uni-assist.
Why uni-assist was established!
The number of international student applicants has continuously increased in the last years. Every year, universities had to process more and more applications from abroad. This fact made an extensive, qualitative selection of candidates very difficult. Moreover, the number of foreign students dropping out of university is proportionally rather high, due to several reasons. This situation is not satisfactory for both sides - neither for the German universities nor for the foreign students.
Thanks to uni-assist, universities can improve their work: the selection of international student applicants as well as the counselling of their international students. uni-assist takes over the formal checking of applications and relieves universities of administrative work. uni-assist should also become a contact point for international student applicants, helping them to apply correctly. In this way, applicants who are suitable are more likely to be accepted and to successfully complete their studies in Germany. An additional advantage for international applicants is the possibility to apply for admission to several universities with only one set of application documents. Since it is specialized in formal pre-checking and uses specifically designed software, uni-assist works efficiently, competently and reliably. Therefore, applicants will get an answer to their application much sooner than before. (Source: http://www.uni-assist.de/index.php?id=1&ebene=3 Rev. 03-17-2008)
