New GERF Call for Social Sciences and Humanities

 Bmbf E STDF logo

Joint Announcement

of the Science and Technology Development Funds (STDF) of the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) of the Federal Republic of Germany of regulations governing the funding of joint research projects in the field of the social sciences and humanities through the "German- Egyptian Research Fund” (GERF).

Funding Purpose

The general aim of this call is to promote German-Egyptian research cooperation in the fields of social sciences and the humanities. However, against the background of the historical changes in Egypt since February 2011, the grants are especially intended to fund Egyptian-German action-oriented and practical research projects that can support the processes of democratic transformation and socio-economic development in Egypt. Thus, research results generated in these projects are to guide the government, governmental agencies and administration as well as civil society actors in building an all-comprising state-society dialogue. Additionally, the research results are to suggest solutions for urgent problems related to the processes of democratic transformation and socio-economic change.

For more information, please refer to the official GERF Call.

Subject-related Partnerships with Institutions of Higher Education

The programme "Subject-related Partnerships with Institutions of Higher Education in Developing Countries” provides an opportunity for German institutions of higher education to collaborate with one or several higher education institutions in developing countries. The core of the programme is the structural development at the foreign higher education institutions, which can be promoted through curriculum or module development as well as through initiating international study programmes, and the mutual recognition of academic degrees. The establishment of networks between the German higher education institutions and their partner institutions, as well as the South-South networking of the foreign higher education institutions among each other, will enhance and broaden the profile of the foreign, as well as the German institutions of higher education.

This Development Programme is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). Target groups are institutions of higher education in developing countries. Please consult the DAC List for countries that are eligible.

The deadline for applications within this call for proposals is the 30st. of June 2011, the earliest funding will be January 2012.

More information can be found here.
