The DAAD is celebrating its 50th ANNIVERSARY!

For the last 50 years, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) has been supporting scientific and academic exchange between Egypt and Germany. In addition to the support granted to thousands of scholarship holders over the years, the DAAD has been active in quite a number of additional fields - from the promotion of German language / German studies to the improvement of higher education management, research funding, etc.

 As such, the DAAD is going to celebrate its 50th anniversary in May 2010 with a series of celebrations and events. In addition to an official dinner with Egyptian and German VIPs, hosted by DAAD’s Secretary General, Dr. Christian Bode, there will be a two-day Alumni meeting at Cairo University’s "Learning Resource Centre” (LRC) from Friday, 28th to Saturday, 29th of May, 2010. The intention of holding this meeting with our Alumni and friends is not just to celebrate the past but to collect new ideas for successful cooperation in the future. In addition, the DAAD Alumni meeting will bring together old friends and serve as a platform for networking.

BioVision2010 conference in Alexandria
April 11 to 15, 2010

One major event this year is BioVision 2010 in Alexandria, organized by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina from April 11 -15. The conference, which will be held under the topic "New Life Sciences: Future Prospects", which will act as an information platform where leading experts from all over the world are invited to address new approaches relating to health, agriculture, biotechnology and environment.

 

The DAAD has invited five high-ranking German scientists from the areas of architecture and urban design, climate change, biomedical sciences, renewable energies and geosciences. Prof. Dr. Ulrich Cubasch (FU Berlin), Dr. Raimund Jäger (Fraunhofer Institute for Mechanics of Materials), Dr. Gregory Leckebusch (FU Berlin), Christoph Hesse (TU Darmstadt) and Tobias Wagner (TU Munich) will be our Guest Speakers.

Interested DAAD Alumni are kindly asked to send an email including full contact details to project2@daadcairo.org until 18th of March. There will be a bus available for DAAD alumni on the 14th of April. The bus will leave Cairo early in the morning and return the same day in the evening.

Kindly note that if the number of interested alumni Exceed the available seats we will chose on a first come-first served basis. Applicants will be timely informed about their participation.

Open invitation to International Women's Football Tournament teams - Discover Football from 4th until the 11th of July 2010 in Berlin

Football is contact. Football brings people together. Football is culture. In the run-up to the FIFA women's world cup in 2011, Berlin will be the international center for women's football in 2010. The goal of this event is about more than offering women's football teams the chance to play in an international sporting context against teams from many different countries and even continents. Encounters among women football players from all over the world therefore, contribute directly to understanding among people of different countries and cultures. It stimulates network building among people Whose Interests in football transcends cultural and national boundaries. This will enable every participant to benefit from new experiences.

A jury will select seven teams from among all the entries received.

The tournament will be completed by a cultural program from the participating countries.
